Collecting 4.0

Hong Gyu Shin in conversation with Catinca Tabacaru

Following the foundations of Collecting 101 and the expanding horizons of Collecting 2.0 and 3.0, this year’s Collecting 4.0 turns its attention to the shifting conditions of collecting today. In a landscape shaped by digital platforms, fluid markets, and increasingly hybrid forms of artistic production, what does it mean to build—and sustain—a collection now?

In conversation with Hong Gyu Shin and Catinca Tabacaru, this talk approaches collecting as an evolving practice: one that moves between physical and virtual spaces, personal intuition and strategic thinking, immediacy and long-term vision. From navigating new modes of access to rethinking value, ownership, and connection, Collecting 4.0 reflects on how collectors position themselves within a rapidly transforming ecosystem.
