The work explores our relationship with the external world, especially between the man-made environment and the body. Borrowing elements from defensive architecture, tension is evoked through the contrasting materiality between the coldness of the steel and the permeability of skin.

Ana Ionescu is a sculptor whose practice is deeply rooted in the idea of materiality, its subtleties but also the curious combinations resulted in the process. Exploring the physical properties and their resonance, she aims to uncover the poetic potential that lies within. Recently, her work is investigating the connection we have to the manmade world, to objects with materiality that turns against us, namely the harshness of the metal against the softness of the skin.
