The work primarily explores the language of play as a natural form of communication — the way children express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and how they come to know and understand the world. Play is fundamentally a symbol of the struggle against opposing forces, including the self. Even when pursued for pure enjoyment, games carry the brilliance of victory, at least for the winner. Play unites the notions of totality, rules, and freedom.
