Underneath Is Always A Storm
Underneath Is Always A Storm explores how things meant to protect us—whether family, institutions, or society—can sometimes suppress or neglect us instead. As an installation, it operates within a sculptural language of materiality and entropy, reflecting on the relationship between familiar objects, societal decay, and the politics of memory. It connects to an old version of the myth of Cronus, who, instead of devouring his children, hid them away in a decaying cradle to stop them from overthrowing him. This mythological connection aligns with the anxieties surrounding power, control, and the vulnerability of collective memory. The work suggests that the personal and the collective memory are not passive; what is suppressed or forgotten does not vanish but lingers beneath the surface, quietly shaping the present and eventually resurfacing in unexpected ways.
