418 Gallery

Munich & Cetate Dolj
RAD 2025, 2026

Founded in Bucharest in 2008 by Dr. Joana Grevers, 418 Gallery is dedicated to Romanian and Eastern European contemporary and avant-garde art. In 2017, the gallery expanded to Cetate, becoming Romania’s first rural gallery, offering artists a unique environment for large-scale and experimental works.

Since its founding, 418 Gallery has focused on the Romanian and Eastern European avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s—artists who pursued abstract expression despite the dominance of Socialist Realism. Romul Nuțiu developed his own interpretation of Abstract Expressionism; Vincentiu Grigorescu moved from geometric abstraction to exploring the materiality of the canvas; and Diet Sayler emerged as a leading figure in concrete art (Konkrete Kunst), with a strong emphasis on geometric abstraction and Minimalism.
