Georgiana Buț

Curator — The National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest

Georgiana Buț is a researcher and editor based in Bucharest. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca; her thesis engages with theoretical discourse on curatorial practice and the reconceptualization of the contemporary art exhibition as an artistic medium. She currently works as a research editor at MNAC – The National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. In 2024, she coordinated the 6th edition of the Autumn School of Curating, led by Kate Fowle (organized by the Art Encounters Foundation Timișoara, and Cluj Cultural Centre); and, together with Larisa Oancea, the Mediation and Research Program for the Romanian Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, as part of Șerban Savu and Atelier Brenda’s project “What Work Is”.  She was guest researcher at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, where she carried out research on Daniel Spoerri’s practice, and she co-edited the first Romanian edition of Spoerri’s artist book, An Anecdoted Topography of Chance [O topografie anecdotată a hazardului], published in 2023 by Editura META, Bucharest, together with Eva and Radu Pervolovici. She co-edited the catalogue for the 5th edition of the Art Encounters Biennial, My Rhino Is Not a Myth: Art Science Fictions (Adrian Notz et al., Art Encounters Publishing House, Timișoara, 2023), together with Diana Marincu.
