
Juraj Čarný
Juraj Čarný is a curator, art critic, and educator based in Bratislava, Slovakia. He focuses on experimental art forms, innovative projects in gallery and public contexts, socially engaged themes, site-specific and context-sensitive art. Čarný’s field of research includes the art of the 1990s and 2000s and Slovak art in foreign collections. Čarný founded and managed several local and international projects (Kunsthalle Bratislava, Crazycurators Biennale, Billboart Gallery Europe, TRAM, Wandering Gallery), congresses (AICA, IKT), museums (Otis Laubert Museum) magazines (Flash Art / Czech and Slovak Edition). Curated Prague Biennale, Mediations Biennale, The Last East European Show and more than 260 exhibitions. He lectured in Oxford, New York, Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Tbilisi, Vaxjo, Venice and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts (Bratislava) and the Faculty of Art and Design at J. E.Purkyně University (Ústí n. L.). He works as the editor-in-chief of the art magazine Rider and as the president of the Curatorial Studies Institute, the only educational program for curators in Slovakia.
