
Michael Birchall
Dr Michael Birchall is an art theorist and curator. Until recently, he was Co-Director of Exhibitions at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich, where he led a programme of exhibitions, commissions, and publications. His expertise lies in envisioning and implementing curatorial projects collaboratively, fostering an understanding of international art histories while remaining deeply connected to local audiences and constituent communities. Recent and forthcoming exhibitions include: Haegue Yang – Leap Year (2025); Accumulation – On Collecting, Growth and Excess (2025); Dineo Seshee Raisibe Bopape – (ka) pheko ye – the dream to come (2024); Tarek Lakhrissi – Bliss (2024); Interdependencies: Perspectives on Care and Resilience (2024); Pilvi Takala – Close Watch (2023); and Basel Abbas & Ruanne Abou-Rahme – May amnesia never kiss us on the mouth (2022). From 2016 to 2020, he was Curator of Public Practice at Tate Liverpool and Senior Lecturer at Liverpool School of Art and Design, where he remains a Visiting Fellow. Birchall has edited numerous catalogues and journals and contributed to a wide range of publications.
