Vasil Vladimirov

Curator — KO-OP Art Space

Vasil Vladimirov is a Bulgarian curator and cultural organizer whose work explores the intersections of art, politics, and history. With an academic background in history and sociology, his practice draws on research-based approaches to fuse artistic and political inquiry.

As director of KO-OP Art Space in Sofia, Vladimirov fosters critical dialogue in contemporary art. He is also the founder of the Festival for Illustration and Graphics (FIG), a key event in Sofia’s cultural calendar since 2021.

In 2022, he was the guest curator at Structura Gallery's Project Room and a fellow researcher at the Centre for Social Vision organised by Swimming Pool, focusing on communist-era cultural heritage.

In 2024, Vladimirov curated The Neighbours, Bulgaria’s official project for the 60th Venice Biennale. The multimedia installation reconstructs personal memories of political violence during Bulgaria’s communist regime, using oral histories, field recordings, and video from former camp sites.

Through his curatorial and research work, Vladimirov creates space for nuanced conversations around memory, identity, and the cultural legacy of Bulgaria’s recent past.
