Maria Bîrsan

Curator — Sandwich

Maria Bîrsan (b. 1998) is a cultural manager and curator whose work unfolds at the crossroads of curatorial research, artistic production, and community-rooted practice.

Since 2021, she has been the director of Sandwich Gallery, where she is closely involved in the exhibition program and various on- and off-site initiatives. She strongly advocates for public space as a cultural resource. In 2022, she founded Sandwich Library, a hybrid space dedicated to visual arts and curatorial studies, located within the Malmaison Workshops. There, she has initiated a series of responsibly curated conversations, film screenings, workshops, and exhibitions that foster dialogue between artists, curators, and the public. Since 2024, she has also served as co-director of RAD Curatorial Summit, a platform dedicated to emerging curatorial practices, presented annually at the RAD Art Fair.
